The Kentucky Employability Certificate

“KEC works for me!”

The Kentucky Employability Certificate (KEC), sponsored by the Kentucky Workforce Investment Board, represents a standardized and reliable credential of workplace skill levels that can be used in businesses throughout the state.  The certificate will be the workplace-oriented credential that provides a reliable and consistent indicator of basic employment skills.

To earn a KEC, a person must perform well on three WorkKeys assessments: reading for information, applied math, and locating information.  Those scoring four on each of all three assessments will receive a silver certificate, indicating the ability to work 50% of all jobs profiled by WorkKeys.  Those scoring five in each of all three assessments will receive a gold certificate, indicating the ability to work 80% of all jobs profiled by WorkKeys.

With the KEC, employers can identify and develop workers for a wide range of skilled jobs.  Students and workers can document and advance their employability skills, and educators can tailor instructional programs to help students acquire the skills that employers need.

WorkKeys is produced by the nationally recognized ACT organization.  The Kentucky Employability Certificate is endorsed by: Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, Council on Postsecondary Education, Kentucky Community and Technical College System, Associated Industries of Kentucky, Kentucky Education Cabinet, Kentucky Adult Education, Kentucky Society for Human Resource Management, and Kentucky State District Council of Carpenters.
